Frequently Asked Questions
Can a bad igniter cause a gas leak?
Not directly. Igniter failure means no spark, so the burner doesn't light. If the gas valve is also failed (stuck open), then gas could escape — but that's a separate failure mode. Your nose is the best detector: any gas smell, turn off the main valve and call.
How can I tell if it's the igniter or the spark module?
If clicking happens normally but the spark looks weak (a faint click rather than a strong snap), it's often the igniter. If clicking is completely absent on one or all burners, more likely the spark module. Final diagnosis on-site with continuity testing.
My igniters all stopped working at once. What's the cause?
Almost certainly the spark module, not the individual igniters (very unlikely for them all to fail simultaneously). The module is what powers all the igniters — when it fails, none of them spark.
