Wolf GR — all-gas — is the other half of the Wolf range lineup. Gas burners AND gas oven below (no electric components in oven). For chefs who prefer the moisture-friendlier gas oven for roasting, baking bread, and broiling. Different platform than DF, different failure patterns.

Wolf GR model lineup
- GR304 — 30" gas range, 4 burners
- GR364C — 36" GR, 4 burners + charbroil
- GR364G — 36" GR, 4 burners + griddle
- GR366 — 36" GR, 6 burners
- GR484CG — 48" GR, 4 burners + char + griddle
- GR486G — 48" GR, 6 burners + griddle
- GR606CG / GR606DG — 60" GR variants
GR vs DF — what's different for repair
The cooktop section is identical (gas burners with electronic igniters). But the oven is completely different:
- GR oven — Gas-fired bake burner, gas-fired broil burner, thermocouples for safety, gas valve and orifices. No electric elements.
- DF oven — Electric bake element, broil element, convection fan and element, electric control of everything.
So if your GR oven won't heat, the diagnostic is: igniter → safety valve → thermocouple → gas pressure. If your DF oven won't heat, the diagnostic is: control board → relay → element → wiring. Different parts list, different troubleshooting tree.
Common GR-specific repairs
- Oven gas safety valve — won't open, no oven heat. quoted on-site
- Oven thermocouple — flame goes out, safety lockout. quoted on-site
- Spark igniter (oven or cooktop) — clicking, no flame. quoted on-site
- Gas pressure regulator — weak flames everywhere. quoted on-site
- Burner head / cap cleaning or replacement — yellow flames, lazy fire. quoted on-site
- Cooktop control valve — burner won't shut off properly. quoted on-site
- Door hinge or seal — oven heat loss. quoted on-site
Why GR is easier to maintain long-term
The GR has fewer electronics. No control board to fry, no convection fan motor to seize, no electric elements to burn out. Routine maintenance is mostly mechanical: igniters, valves, thermocouples. We see GR ranges from the early 2000s still running great in NYC kitchens. The trade-off: no convection, no precise temperature control like the DF.
Frequently Asked Questions
Wolf GR vs DF — which is more reliable?
GR (all-gas) has fewer electronics and tends to last longer with less expensive repairs. DF has better baking precision and true convection. Both are excellent; GR is simpler.
Can I run self-clean on a Wolf GR range?
GR ovens don't have self-clean (no electric elements to drive the high heat). You manually clean the gas oven, which is gentler on components long-term.
My GR oven won't light — what's the issue?
Usually igniter, gas safety valve, or thermocouple. Listen: do you hear gas flowing? Do you see the igniter glow? We diagnose all three on-site.
How much does a Wolf GR oven safety valve cost to replace?
quoted on-site total including service call, OEM part, labor. Truck-stocked part for common GR models.
